Do you ever wonder if modeling is as fun and glamorous as it looks? I for one, can tell you it is definitely NOT! It was about 16 degrees below zero on a super cold February day when Debbie and I met this model at an old barn in Ridgeville, Ontario for a furniture ad photo shoot. Jenica was a super trooper for looking calm and collected while wearing next to nothing. I do have to mention that she is an actual professional model who makes her living by being photographed in all sorts of insanely inhospitable conditions! She did get some help warming up by some wonderful baby Rhodesian Ridgeback puppies provided by Wade at Ridgeville Rhodesian Ridgebacks (www.ridgevillerr.ca). The shoot itself was for a really unique shop called “Chic by Jansen” which carries thousands of one-of-a-kind furniture/art pieces and historical furniture replicas. Fun times!

DIY TYC {niagara wedding photographer}03.22.12
We don’t post things like this often enough, but here’s a really cool example of a do it yourself thank you card and sticker/seal created by one of our recent brides. This is of course, an option if you choose to have all your high resolution photo files included in your package. I thought I’d post this as potential inspiration to any of our couples looking to do something similar. Email me and I’ll let you know more specifics like the printing company, etc.

Ashley MacIsaac in Jordan01.15.12
As I prepared for bed on this cold Saturday night giving baths to the kids being thankful I had a warm house, I looked outside to my front sidewalk to see in insanely huge crowd jumping up and down and a really loud fiddle blaring wildly in the darkness. I thought this might be a good opportunity to photograph something, so I grabbed my trusty Canon and sprinted outside. Who should I see but some famous dude named Ashley MacIsaac going nuts on a violin in the middle of Main Street in lil ol’ Jordan, Ontario! He’s still at it as I write this! Of course one can hardly notice him with the huge parka, but 3 or 4 hundred people can’t be wrong right? Great party going on and some really funky ice sculptures too – it’s the Ice Wine festival held in our little town each year at this time!

Not Quite Internet Celebs!01.04.12
Yes, every now and then we like to practice our acting skills and some people actually go for it! Here’s our latest appearance on Sympatico.ca (as of January 3/12). Yes it really is us and our little dude Rian arguing over a utility bill. Kinda sad we’re starring in “money issues that can kill your marriage” but we’re still good with each other – just acting (in case you’re checking this out Mom!) Now, I’m off to check out the alien corpse story – fascinating!!

Elegant Simplicity07.06.11
For those of you who follow our blog regularly – THANK YOU! You may be wondering why the simplicity in this new look? Well, actually that’s the point. In this world where websites and blogs are very cheap and easy to load up with all kinds of effects and banners and backgrounds, videos and dingbats, we’ve decided to take a more organic, classy, simple and “off-the-beaten-path” approach to our blog. Our images often seem pulled from an era when film was in it’s infancy (or maybe middle aged) and had an aire of nostalgia. We like to couple that approach to our photos with a modern cleanness to our blog and website – true to our philosophy – “modern wedding photography with a vintage flare”. We hope you enjoy!

A very funky salon03.09.11
What a hardship we had this past week photographing a bunch of gorgeous hairstylists from a very cool salon called SODA HAIR GROUP. It’s a must experience to visit – even if you just want some great company and entertainment! My hair is getting less and less “manageable” (if that’s a politically correct way to say – “I’m going bald!”) but I still love to go just to see them!

Hello, I’m Steve (from Julie & Steve – Stoney Creek)
I can honestly say we spent a lot of time looking at pictures and talking to different photographers before we choose Stec.
)
They were one of the first photographers we interviewed when we met Pete and Deb at the Hamilton Bridal show.
The only problem for us was that the set the bar too high and every person after that failed to compare.
By far, we did the most oohing and ahhhing looking at their work with so many unique angles, unique affects and unique look and feel to their work.
From most photographers we were able to pick out 2 or 3 or 4 pics from their catalogue that we truly liked and kept in the back of our mind…Clearly they are displaying their best work.
We found ourselves quite more taken by so much of Stec’s work and the vintage look.
We learned SOOOOO much about photography from the experience of have actually developed an interest the field from the time we have spent. (Strictly amateur – no competition for you
Taking the photographs on the event day is stage 1. Deb was our photographer for the day both her and her assistant are friendly consummate professionals and a joy to work with.
Stage 2 and where the unseen work is spent and where you get your true value. It’s the time spent artistically enhancing the photos and giving the most amazing feel and affect for the truly inspiring shots. This is where Stec really shines. (not to diminish their abilities of taking the shots, because they do not lack here at all).
To summarize, I want to pass on the lessons I’ve learned interviewing photographers.
Most photographers will go through their pictures for the day and enhance them for a better look and colour/exposure/white balance etc.
We did not find anyone that spends the time to artistically enhance as many photos (and as well) to truly give that special look and feel that makes the photos so worthwhile.
Thank you from Steve and Julie
I cannot agree more with Steve, from ‘Steve and Julie – Stoney Creek’. My husband and I had the honour of Pete capturing our wedding on film. Nine years later I love looking at every single photo just as much now as I did the first time. Truely timeless and amazing sense of artistry. We love having these treasures to look back on and actually see the emotions caught frame by frame. Thank you so much for the memories and nothing but the best to Stec Photography in the future.
